A prestigious and well-written article about MAK Wheels in the Giornale di Brescia, a well-known local newspaper, reproduced below in its entirety:
In addition to updating its payoff (from “performance wheels” to “design & passion”), Mak Wheels of Carpenedolo has the icing on the cake to celebrate its 30th anniversary: the 2021 financial year closed with a record turnover of 57 million euros (up 15 million compared to 2020).
So the company – Italian market leader in aluminium alloy wheels, its historic core-business covering 80% of total sales, in addition to its complementary spare wheels and tyre pressure monitoring systems – allocated part of its profits to its workers. A net treasure of 100,000 euro, distributed – according to seniority in the company – in the pay packets of last December of the 90 employees, including the Gussago production site, hired at least a year ago. Not only that, the employees who boast 25 years of “loyalty”, as per tradition, were also given a “special prize”.
“This is the right reward for a cohesive and motivated team, which has allowed us to consolidate our leadership in the national automotive aftermarket, as well as recording continuous growth abroad, exporting to 52 countries worldwide,” says Mak Wheels president Gualtiero Cervati, who in 1991 started the business with the Cervati Foundry in Brescia as a joint venture with Angelo Magri, owner of Magri Gomme of Carpenedolo.
“It is remarkable to see that we have achieved significant numbers in such a difficult year,” echoes managing director Guglielmo Bertolinelli. First of all, by adopting rigorous anti-Covid measures in the offices and factory (continuous sanitisation treatments and, from September, a mandatory Green Pass to access the facilities, ed.), we have recorded a low percentage of absences: this has allowed us to work almost always with 100% of the staff”. The economic situation has helped. And again: “Thanks to the rise in transport costs from Asia, Europe has concentrated on products of continental origin, including ours”, insists the CEO.
And the future? Ours are not basic necessities,” observes Bertolinelli, “but they are still in great demand among a design-conscious medium-high level clientele, especially with the transition to electrified vehicles, which require wheels with specific technical characteristics… and we are able to satisfy them. and we are able to satisfy them”.
The company is looking to the future: “In this regard, with an investment of 6 million euros, we are giving a boost to quality,” explains the CEO. “We are moving and renovating the paint shop in ‘Industry 4.0 style’ in a shed opposite the existing one in Via Cristoforo Colombo (where the offices and warehouse will be maintained), with over 120,000 wheels available in a wide range of models (available on the B2B platform of the website with 3D configurations, ed. Ready in June, it will be fully operational in September”.
