A puncture takes away Matteo cressoni’s podium in the 4H of SPA, but not his smile in the pits, in the company of his Belgian partner Atraxion visiting the circuit to support the Mantuan driver sponsored by MAK Wheels! After coming close to a new Top3 in Belgium in the fourth act of the European Le Mans Series, Matteo succeeded in a first-profile performance that unfortunately faded just minutes from the end.
The Lombard driver delivered a flawless performance alongside Claudio Schiavoni and Julien Andlauer, consistently positioning themselves among the frontrunners in the second half of a race filled with dramatic twists and challenging conditions. The Italian-French crew proudly represented Proton Competition, battling with the various Ferraris on the track for a prestigious podium finish during the final frantic hours of action. The pace shown by the distinctive Porsche #60 was incredible, with Matteo Cressoni completing an impressive 37 laps, proving his speed regardless of the condition of the tires.
Unfortunately, the team’s strategy and the excellent work of the former series champion were undone just moments before the checkered flag by a puncture that forced Julien Andlauer into an additional pit stop. The disappointment was immense for the team, which races under a German license, as the trio had delivered a flawless performance, staying clear of the numerous incidents that marked the fiercely contested LMGT3 class.
Matteo Cressoni commented at the end of the weekend in the Ardennes: “We did an excellent job; we’re happy with what we accomplished up until the puncture that unfortunately ruined an almost perfect day. I’m very satisfied with my performance on track; the team worked brilliantly, and with the strategy, we recovered positions despite taking some risks, like not changing the tires during my second stint.”
Our fellow countryman will be back on track next week for the Lone Star Le Mans (Austin – Texas), valid for the FIA World Endurance Championship. The next round of the European Le Mans Series, however, will be at Mugello at the end of September, an event not to be missed before the season finale in Portimao in October.
