The MAK Sponsored driver Matteo Cressoni fought hard among the best in the 4h Mugello before ending the event prematurely due to an incident. Our compatriot leaves the Tuscan track with disappointment after it hosted the penultimate round of the European Le Mans Series last weekend. The former series champion gained several positions with his Proton Competition Porsche #60 during the first stint of the race, completing 50 minutes of driving and making 24 laps across the finishing line. The car managed to stay glued to the leading group in a race characterized by numerous yellow flags and a brief suspension following an impact involving the Porsche #60.
Fortunately, there were no serious consequences for Claudio Schiavoni, who was driving the German team’s car that crashed into the barriers after contact with the Porsche #85 driven by Rahel Frey of the Iron Dames. The crew had to give up after just over two hours of racing, a real disappointment considering the excellent pace they had shown since the pre-event tests on Thursday. Claudio Schiavoni, Matteo Cressoni, and Julien Andlauer, the official Porsche Motorsport driver who didn’t even get to drive a single lap at Mugello, will certainly be back in action in less than a month in Portimao, Portugal, with the clear intention of finishing the season strongly after facing unfortunate incidents, such as the puncture suffered during the 4h of Spa.
Matteo Cressoni stated in a comment: « It’s always disappointing not to finish the race, especially after the recovery we were making. I’m glad there were no consequences for Claudio given the violence of the impact on the main straight; I believe we had a chance to compete for something important this weekend. I thank all the fans who supported me and everyone who came to see me at Mugello since Thursday. » As already mentioned, Matteo Cressoni’s next track engagement will be in Portugal on October 19 for the 4h Portimao, which serves as the concluding round of the European Le Mans Series. Subsequently, the Italian will return to action in the FIA World Endurance Championship with the 8h of Bahrain.
